St. Luke's Church

About

St Luke’s is a charismatic Evangelical Anglican church, part of the diocese of Newcastle. We are a New Wine network church and a ‘Fresh Expression'– authorised by the Church of England from our beginnings in 2007 to ‘think outside the box’, and we like to think the Lord is helping us combine the best of the old with the best of the new!

So each Sunday we have a relaxed Holy Communion at 10.45am followed by tea and coffee and in the evening at 6pm coffee and cake followed at 6.30 by an unscripted ‘open to the Holy Spirit’ event. During the week we have an early morning prayer meeting with breakfast from 7.30 – 8.30 am where we worship, study the Bible and pray. This is held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We invite committed members or enquirers to join or visit a midweek group. Each group has a particular focus and is a place where people get to know one another, seek God together and look for ways of serving their community.

Students and the Universities

St Luke’s is University friendly – last year 50% of us were students, teachers or administrators at the Universities. We fully support the Christian Union and we have been a Fusion link church from the beginning.

On the Streets

Banner Sm

St Luke’s is a street church! We are massively committed to supporting ventures which are taking God’s people from many churches out onto the streets of Newcastle with wonderful effects!

Several of our leaders and many of our members are involved. Sam Douthwaite heads up Street Pastors, which has a growing team which patrols the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights.

Robert has been leading Healing on the Streets (HOTS) for a couple of years during which we’ve seen hundreds healed and many making commitments to Jesus. Robert is now regional consultant and trainer, having helped establish HOTS teams in Aberdeen, Durham, Darlington and York.

Mark Birch Machin has established Speakers of Life (SOL), a monthly School of Prophets which sharpens the prophetic edge of a growing number of Christians from around the churches. One Saturday a month SOL goes out ‘Treasure Hunting’ in the centre of Newcastle bringing unexpected encounters with the love of God to a growing number of unsuspecting citizens!

Working Together

SOL are accountable to, and speak into the Pastors’ group, Together in Christ (TIC), which Robert leads. TIC is a wonderful association of senior church leaders who meet weekly to pray and out of which have come many strategic ventures including Just 10 with J John, HOTS and most recently Eden, bringing hope to disadvantaged young people living on challenging housing estates. Eden launches in Byker, Blyth and Teesside this September.
